The soprano Carolyn Grace James was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa in the USA. After completing her studies at Arizona State University, she received a scholarship at the Juilliard School in New York. She studied with Darleen Kliewer-Britten, Ruth Falcon, Dennis Striny i Gemma Visser. While still studying, she took part in master vocal courses with: Leontyne Price, Luciano Pavarotti, Licia Albanese, Elizabeth Söderström, Maureen Forrester, Dalton Baldwin, Gerard Souzay, Peter Sellers and Warren Jones. She won first places in such competitions as: Metropolitan Opera Competition, Liederkranz Competition, Abt. Kunstlieder, New York Oratorio Competition, National Association for Teachers of Singing, Music Teachers National Association Competition, Sun Cities Symphony Butterfield Competition,  Phoenix Little Theater Competition, Mario Lanza Competition in Philadelphia, National Society of Arts and Letters, the Madame Butterfly Competition, Performer of the Year,  Arizona State University School of Music, Young Alumni of the Year award, Arizona State University. She was also a finalist at the Carnegie Hall American Music Competition. Prof. Carolyn Grace James began her career in the opera theatres and philharmonics in the USA. She performed with the following conductors: James Levin, Seiji Ozawa, James Colon, Antonio Pappano, Mark Minkowski, Phillip Herewege, Bruno Weil, Trevor Pinnock, Leopold Hager, Yoel Levy and many others in Metropolitan Opera New York, Wiener Staatsoper, Opéra Bastille in Paris, Theatre de la Monnaie Brüssel, Kölner Oper, Miami Grand Oper, Dresden Semperoper, Mannheim Stadt Theater,  Karsruhe Landes Theatre, Philadelphia Opera, Wienervolksoper, Koblenz Oper, Chile Theatro Communale and in Santa Fe Opera. The most important parties were: Aida in Montreal, New Jork (Met), Philadelphia, Berlin, Cologne, Karlsruhe and in other 20 cities in Germany, as well as Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Donna Elvira (Don Giovanni), La Contessa (Le Nozze di Figaro), Fiordiligi (Così fan tutte), Elettra (Idomeneo), Vitellia (La Clemenza di Tito), Amelia (Un ballo in maschera), Elisabetta (Don Carlos), Ellen Orford (Peter Grimes), Alice Ford (Falstaff ), Leonore (Il Trovatore), Abigaille (Nabucco). She participated in pre-premiere of Die Sündflut by Wilfried Marii Danner at the Semperoper in Drezden and in Karlsruhe. They are worth stressing: the world premiere of Vigil of Venus by George Lloyd at the Royal Festival Hall in London (CD recording by Decca), the recording of Elijah of Mendelssohn under the direction of Antonio Pappano (Forlaine’s CD, awarded Grand Prix du Disque) and DVD recording of Don Giovanni under the baton of James Conlon. The artist's repertoire is in the concert-oratory genre, from Bach to Verdi. Professor Carolyn Grace James performed with this repertoire at the Royal Albert Hall in London, Carnegie Hall in New York, with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, the Ottawa Symphony Orchestra, the Winnepeg Symphony Orchestra, the Cardiff Symphony Orchestra and the Wales Symphony Orchestra. In addition, she performed concert tours in Asia and South America. During the guest appearances, she was applauded as part of the Festspiele in Edinburgh, during the Blossom Festival of Cinncinati, in Lyon, Rotterdam, La Maggica Musicale and the Kölner Philharmonie. The artist loves vocal lyric, mainly Richard Strauss, Robert Schumann, Gustav Mahler and Francis Poulenc. Professor Carolyn Grace James also impresses the audience as an interpreter of the works of American composers of the 20th and the 21st century, not forgetting the genre of Spirituals and Gospel. In this repertoire she presented herself during the recitals and she shared her experience during the vocal courses at Kansas State University, University of Nebraska in Omaha, in Kerna, Minneapolis, Minnesota, SMU in Dallas Texas, Milliken Uni in Illinois, Shaker Mountain Performing Arts Festival in New York, in Oper Köln, Berlin, Dresden and Seoul. During her career in New York, she discovered a great pedagogical passion. In 2000 she came to Germany and she gave singing lessons in Cologne. In 2010 Carolyn Grace James was offered a professorship of solo singing at the Musical Theater Academy in Hamburg.
